This project will reconstruct single rooms for 20 widows and their families who have been left homeless as a result of flooding that collapsed their mud structures leaving them to the mercies of the weather and further increasing their vulnerabilities. The widows and Orphans Movement (WOM) plans to support these families reconstruct better sustainable rooms for each family, giving them a home and sheltering them against the mercies of weather and evil members of society, giving them hope
The upper East Region of Ghana is one of the poorest in the Country. It experiences perennial floods which usually destroys life and property with widows and their children being the hardest hit . The region also has the highest (59,213) number of widows in the country, 70% of whom are either poor or extremely poor and living in mud houses. This greatly limits their ability to recover from the disaster exposing them to rape, whether conditions, etc. This project aims to support them reconstruct
The project will provide a safe place for each widow and their children to curb violence against them such as rape, discrimination, harassment, etc, which occurs due to increased vulnerability . Widows will be able to participate in livelihood activities, participate in community activities, stay together as part of the foundational step to having a better life
The reconstructed sustainable homes will serve as alternative models of construction to reduce collapse as a result of perennial flooding.
