This project will help 60 children living in the very poor town of Santa Luzia (lower HDI of Brasilia/Brazil) and will take care, feed and teach them the basic values of life. It will keep small children from the streets, children who never experienced peace and coexist with drug addicts and dealers. They suffer violence and lack of love even at home; they face hunger; their houses lack everything and many have no paved floor and no windows; they share rats and litter as toys.
The town of Santa Luiza today has approximately 700 children with ages between 2 and 5 who do not attend daycare or schools and play on the streets while their parents are searching for work or collecting garbage in the region. It is urgent to put these children in safe places, away from violence, drug dealers and child molesters. It is extremely necessary to teach them constructive values, give them nutritious food, teach basic hygiene. It is also urgent that they develop a culture of peace.
In our project the children spend the day in a special environment. They learn through methods which are more than just purely educational: they learn while they play and they are hugged and get the full attention of the caretakers. For them we maintain planned daily activities (including learning to read and to interact with other children). We give them four good meals made by trained cooks. They get free uniforms and shoes, so that their families can save to buy their own food too.
After being nourished, they certainly will have a better health. After being taught the basics, the children will bloom and will be able to interact with children of different communities. Those children will become better citizens; will learn the importance of education and respect. They will be better sons and daughters and try to build peace in their own environment. In the end, it impacts their community and collaborate to build a fair world for all.
