The fashion industry is one of the most polluting on the planet, and instead of reducing consumption there is more and more of it. We consider it necessary that each designer, brand or artisan dedicated to producing garments takes social and environmental responsibility by introducing recycling methods. Through the recycler, we will recover materials such as fabrics and threads for designers and artisans to produce new garments using traditional techniques.
We are addressing several problems with this project: 1. Old clothes as trash 2. The artisans will be taught the possibility of generating their own materials, to continue with their traditional techniques, but with recycled threads from fabrics or clothing considered garbage. 3. For designers the possibility to continue creating and producing their products in an environmentally safe way in a place where the recycled materials are ready to use.
we are stablishing a recycler in San Cristobal de Las Casas, where we will gather the trash in the surroundings, separate it, choose between clothes that can be reused, clothes that can be redesigned and fabrics that be turned into new materials. Create new materials like threads and patchwork fabrics with the old clothes previously washed. Train the artisans and designers on how to use recycled materials to create new garments using their traditional techniques.
Reduce the fashion trash in Chiapas. Teach the artisans how to produce their own materials through fabric recycling and reducing the prices, Create an environmentally safe fashion industry. Open textile recyclers in other communities in the Highlands of Chiapas and the rainforest area. Help continue the textile tradition in Chiapas.
