With the high rate of school dropout and missing out of school activities due to inaccessible period products, the Red Dots provides comfortable and clean reusable pads and pant liners for menstruators to keep them in school. The period kit also has an illustrative menstrual education and a customizable period calendar to aid period tracking. Pads last between three to five years.
Menstruation is a part of a girl's and women's life. Girls of school age in rural communities - Ushongo and Okpokwu are missing out of school due to inaccessible period products. The girls also lack basic menstrual education to maintain a healthy menstruation. Lack of clean water in schools is also a barrier hindering girls from staying in school during this period.
Red Dots is an educational project that trains menstruators and school teachers on maintaining menstrual hygiene using an illustrative picture period book while also providing a training platform for girls to make reusable period pads for their usage. The Red Dots period kit contains affordable, clean and comfortable reusable cloth pads and pant liners to enhance menstrual management and good health.
Girls will have access to period products and increase the use of reusable period materials which will curb environmental pollution caused by the use of disposable pads. Girls will be able to produce cloth pads from clean cotton materials devoid of chemicals for the use which will boost health and confidence level. Menstruators and their families will be menstrual literate thus breaking period stigma which are existing in communities.
