Enriching discussions at Youth Connect

By Anna Schwaller | Project Assistant

Youth Connect Online Meeting
Youth Connect Online Meeting

The third Youth Connect online meeting took place on February first and prooved to be incredibly inspiring!

In recent discussions, we have explored topics related to alcohol marketing & advertising since the alcohol industry is pursuing more and more tactics to attract young people, even children. Commercial marketing is therefore aimed at young people. The huge negative impact of commercial marketing is especially damaging when it comes to a harmful product such as alcohol. Additionally, the role of social media is essential when it comes to report and ban alcohol adverts as disturbing content. Digital marketing and online services enable young people to convenietly order alcohol packages to their homes at any hour!

This time, our emphasis was on the practical aspect of the topic. There are many good examples around the world of how we can involve and engage youth. This can start with a discussion at the local Blue Cross with young people. Other examples include arranging talent shows, talk shows, musical performances, or establishing sober spaces as alternative options.

It was encouraging to hear numerous inspiring examples of specific activities already implemented in various local settings. Furthermore, the exchange proved to be inspiring for all involved, allowing us to benefit from each other’s experiences.

We are looking forward to having more fruitful discussions in the future! We want to empower youth globally, to listen to their ideas, and strengten communities. We are grateful to be able to continue this meaningful work through your generous donation!
