Youth Voices Against Gender-Based Violence

By Jonas Graf | Fundraising and Communication Assistant

Young people need safe spaces where they can talk openly about violence, online abuse, pressure, fear, and the challenges they face in everyday life. Too often, young people stay silent because they are ashamed, unsure where to seek help, or afraid that no one will listen.

This is why prevention education matters.

Blue Cross Society of Tanzania creates spaces where young people can learn, reflect, and speak without fear. In recent sessions with students from Elimu Yetu Training Centre, Focus College, and Volcano College, participants explored the impact of gender-based violence and online abuse through discussions, poems, short performances, debates, and group reflections.

The young people shared clear and powerful messages: violence should never be minimized, silence allows harm to continue, and preventing violence is everyone’s responsibility.

For many students, these sessions are more than a lesson. They are a chance to understand their rights, recognise harmful situations, support their peers, and learn where to seek help. They also show young people that their voices matter and that they can be part of building safer communities.

Thank You for Making This Work Possible: Your support helps International Blue Cross and local partners such as Blue Cross Society of Tanzania continue this important work. It enables young people to receive prevention education, practical guidance, and safe spaces where they can learn, speak up, and protect one another.

Together, we can help young people grow up safer, stronger, and full of possibility.
