In the existing predicament, susceptible children and young people are in danger being left behind. Majority of communities from Kenya have been affected by the virus and most vulnerable groups face challenges that have been compounded overnight. Almost 2.34 billion children are currently under some form of imprisonment owing to COVID-19, this has amplified their risk of exposure to drugs and substance abuse, including violence, sexual abuse, exploitation and mental health challenges.
Majority of communities from Uasin Gishu County have been affected by the Covid-19 virus.Almost 2.34 billion children are currently under some form of imprisonment owing to COVID-19,this has amplified the risk of exposure to drugs and substance abuse, including violence, sexual abuse,exploitation and mental health challenges for youths in UGC.For instance, 4,000 girls from Machakos County were pregnant victims as a result of Covid-19 virus.This project focuses on improving mental health issues.
KITBAG Tool enhances an open communication, built self-confidence and a strong self-esteem among the children and youth in the targeted areas during pandemic hard times . The tool helps to understand and demystify the challenges faced by the target group. It also help in the exchange of ideas where the children and youth are now open to real learning. The importance of this activity is to break the ice so that children, youth and community at large can start getting used to the new normal.
The project will support and educate 80 grassroots teams affiliated with Tumkkas CBO,60 Tumkkas Little League Champions Teams within the county,30 armature athletics teams and 6 orphanages working with Tumkkas CBO.They will know and learn more about one another and thus made sturdy friendship among themselves.The introduction of KITBAG Tool shows how most children and youth are able to easily learn a new life skill and understand that human beings have got different system of understanding.
