During the armed conflict in our region many women have become the victims of serious violence, taking their dignity and scarring them for life. They ran, hurting bodies, crushed minds, and now little clothing, food, help and dispersed families. Slowly they come out of hiding and start looking for help. The hospital treats immediate injuries, and we admit the women, who are in need of in-depth-psychological rehabilitation, into our refuge.
During the armed conflict from November 2020 till January2023 many women have suffered in ways that are just horrific. Their dignity has been violated and they are suffering greatly. Many of them have not come forward yet because of shame and fear. The ones who have come forward receive medical assistance and basic counseling in the hospital. But for some women the psychological trauma is very severe, and they need more intensive and specialized assistance.
In our refuge the women are provided with a safe house, where it is peaceful and confidential. The women are admitted for 3 months, and they receive holistic services. There are activities like crafts and arts, group counselling, individual counselling and trainings like life skills training, parenting skills training and small business skills training. The women are taken to the hospital for ongoing medical appointments. The dignity and confidentiality of the women is always respected.
The project will rehabilitate 60 severely traumatized women, these empowered and dignified women will reintegrate back into their communities or new communities of their choosing, where they will be able to start a small business and provide for their family and play an active role in the rebuilding of their community.
