Syrian Refugees in Jordan
The GHNI team was invited to the house of a Syrian friend, Al Shaykh (the Elder) *Abu Sydu. He was the leader of a big trip in Syria. We have known him for a very long time and he loves us and enjoys having us visit him and his family. We had a very special meal cooked by his wife. We had a great time visiting with one another and having conversations about different topics. He explained his responsibilities in supervising over 1,500 people and how this made him feel good about himself. He also shared with us how our connection and visits with him have changed his life.
Our team visited *Fawzi and *Radri, an Iraqi couple who have been in Amman since December 2016. They were living in Baghdad, where Fawzi worked in a jewelry shop as a professional goldsmith for 12 years. Fawzi was a partner. One day a group of violent men came into the shop and stabbed Fawzi because they knew he earned a good amount of money working there. At the time of the attack, Radri was pregnant with twin babies. When she heard about what happened to her husband, the shock affected her physically and she had to be taken to the hospital. The twins were born prematurely and the delivery was very hard for Radri. Fawzi and Radri were both in the hospital with the newborn twins for several weeks.
After all the suffering Fawzi and Radri went through, Fawzi decided to leave his job. Once they recovered from their physical injuries, they decided to travel somewhere outside of Iraq. Fawzi’s relatives supported them financially so they could travel and move. They fled to Lebanon to find a safe and secure refuge for their twins. Living in Lebanon was very expensive so they decided to move to Amman. Fawzi and the family are waiting for visas to Australia. We are hoping all things work together for their good.
