Parents learn together with their children

Despite the wartime, the need for rehabilitation of children with hearing problems is still high. Therefore, we are preparing for the next online session, which we plan to start in the second half of October. Our specialists select children who are especially in need of the help of our specialists, and also prepare the necessary curriculum. Priority is given to children from regions that suffered greatly from the bombings, many of whom have moved to safer cities in Ukraine and other countries.
In this online session, we will also conduct extra classes for parents, who will receive practical advice on how to properly continue to engage with their children at home, as well as advice on raising and integrating children with hearing problems into the social environment.
Once again, we express our gratitude for the financial support of our sponsors, who, with their donations, give our children hope for a healthy and prosperous life.

Continuing rehabilitation support for children

Sibling Sasha and Maria are 6 and 4 years old. They were among 25 participants who attended the online rehabilitation session in April 2024. This is a wonderful Ukrainian family from Chernivtsi, where the parents also have hearing problems.But the insistence of parents that deaf children learn to hear, speak and be fully adapted into our society is admirable.After all, in addition to rehabilitation classes with specialists, home classes with parents are very important.By the way, Sasha is already in the first grade of a regular school with in-depth study of foreign languages and arts.
During these trying times, our instructors continue helping children with cochlear implants and hearing aids receive quality care online from speech therapists, audiologists, specialists in musical stimulation of speech development, and psychologists. Our online sessions deliver high results despite constant bombardments and air-raid warning.

Psychologists help children with hearing problems

Sergey is making progress
The story of a nine-year-old boy, Sergey, is, unfortunately, not unlike any other child’s story in the city of Kharkiv. From the very beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Sergey and his mother lived in the basement of their house to hide from bombs.
Mom has tried several times to move the family to a safer city but were unable to do so and had to remain in Kharkiv with their elderly grandparents. Sergey has a hearing disability and wears a cochlear implant. At school his second-grade classes are constantly interrupted by air raid sirens, which makes education very stressful. Our team of qualified specialists helps children with hearing disabilities and Sergey, in particular, to continue their important rehabilitation process.
Our specialists continue teaching new skills to develop auditory perception and speech. Additionally, they facilitate psychological rehabilitation, which is very important to our children.
Sergey is getting a lot of benefit from his online classes. In October 2023 we started planning for the upcoming online session by organizing applicants’ data, participant selection and organization of curriculum materials.
On October 11th 24 participants enrolled in our 3-week program. During that time our instructors received multiple messages of gratitude from children’s parents.
