Celebrating Holi with Children with Disabilities

By Samjhana Ramtel | Assistance Teacher

We are thankful to all the donors for providing continuous support to needy children with disabilities in Nepal. Till date, you gave us more than $39722 with 360 donors. We hope for your support during the days to come. Even in the COVID-19 worse situation, we are successful in providing the necessary support to the children. This is because of your support. GREAT THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN!

In fagu purnima, the full moon day, holi the festival of colorism Nepal, is joyfully celebrated, particularly in terai. They paint their friends and family members with colour powders during this time, wishing them a “happy holi” and exchanging greetings of harmony and prosperity.

We decided to celebrate holi on Friday because it was a Sunday, March 24 and there was a holiday throughout the region. As usual, we begin our day on March 22. There are twenty regular coming students at Patan CBR, and about ten of our children with disabilities arrived. They were ecstatic to spend Holi with the CBR family. As soon as they get here, we begin our day together. Along with children with disabilities, we sang rhymes and engaged in some activity.

Following our workout, we entered the classroom. We split them up into three groups once they entered the classroom and took attendance. We instruct them in three subjects: Math, English, and Nepali. Every period lasts for one hour. We teach children about numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and other concepts in math. We teach kids about grammar, fruits, vegetables, and other things in English. We teach them about language in Nepali.

Different people have different limitations, so we must teach them in a method that is simple and understandable to them. They create some greeting cards with us for Holi. They had their lunch break once our study session was over. They eat lunch together as a group with their buddies.  Nobody knew when we were going to play Holi. Following their lunch break, they returned to their classroom. We allowed them to play some indoor games like ludo, LEGO, passing balls, etc. once they entered the classroom. A few children who are disabled create candles. We get ready with some color and sweets after our games. We combined them. Our teacher gave them chocolate, colored their cheeks, and wished them a happy Holi. They then play color with their friends after that. With our CBR family, we went to Terrence to play Holi. Together, we captured some pictures that we will always treasure. In the same way, we joyfully celebrate our Holi in 2024.

All we have to do is work a little harder to make them happy. We must ensure that they feel secure and at ease in our company as well as in our society. Including them in our joy is the greatest accomplishment. With the help of these, we can change the view towards people with disabities. They embrace who they are. God made them unique so that everyone would recognize their uniqueness.
