This time I’m reporting very new development in CBR. As majority of the children in Patan CBR have developmental/Intellectual Disabilities (ID), students from the skill development unit have been getting the skill training for a long time. In order to sharpen their skill, Patan CBR provided skill development training to the family members specially targeting to the mothers and single mothers of them so that the family members can teach them in case they forget. There is a need of repeatedly striking the mind of students of children with ID as they are prone to forget, the skill development to their family members help to keeping their skill remembered.
A three day training has been conducted to the single/mothers of children in which there were 8 participants. Seven are from the families and 1 is the student of the centre. Throughout the training they learn about how to make the ear rings, key rings, bangles, necklace, mobile covers all made from crystals. Parents are very happy to get such type of training so that they can earn by selling these products in the market and they can improve their intellectually ID children’s life to some extent.
One parent expressed the view during the closing ceremony saying “Patan CBR did a very good thing by providing training to the parents of ID children. Now I can earn money even some hours of work in my own house and do not have to go to office and side by side I can care for my children. With this money, I can raise the quality of life of my children and will be able to pay in his school.”
Roshan (name changed), one of the participants from the skill development unit said “Thank you very much for Patan CBR for furnishing my skill capacity. I was searching for a job as my elder brother started giving his income to my mum but I could not. Now I can also earn and give some to my family”.
The program was conducted in cooperation with Sub Metropolitan City, Lalitpur.
