This time we are reporting about the outing program for the children.
“In life everyone is in the search of happiness”. The word comprises with the meaning that fills a person with good feelings, a content of satisfaction. The definition of happiness differs from person to person. Everyone wants to be happy in life for which they perform various things. People also take break from their daily monotonous activities and do something different which freshens up both their mind and body.
With the same purpose an outing was planned on February 2017 for the students with disabilities to divert them from their daily activities. The aim behind it was a healthy mind and body. The day out was planned at the UN Park which is near the centre i.e. 15 minutes’ walk. The students were taken by foot and some of the students were taken by wheel chairs. A group of trainees, foreign volunteers and staff members facilitated and guided the students for the whole day.Couples of activities were planned for the students including games, recreational activities and a walk around the Park.
The arrangements were made beforehand and the students took some rest after reaching the place. Then the volunteers and the trainees involved the students in various games by dividing them into favorable groups which was supervised by the staff members and the teachers. Games included hiding the handkerchief, catching the odd one out, getting the sweets down, skipping, swing, and slide. The students had their lunch after all the games which was a retreat by the trainees and volunteers of the centre. After the lunch there was a recreational activity in which the students sang their favorite songs and danced to their heart out. Finally the students were taken for a short walk around the park and let them spent some time for the peace of the mind.
Students were observed having fun playing and spending time with their friends and facilitators. As a whole everything went according to the plan and the laid purpose was achieved. The outing was a success and it is ensured that a mutual learning was obtained because of which everyone returned homes with good memories.
The program was joined by two volunteers from Germany and Austria. One volunteer from Germany expressed that “I did not believe that there is existence of such a good facility for Children with Disabilities in Nepal. CBR is doing really a good job for them”.
Lastly there is a saying that, “we must find happiness where we are”. And this is what we have taught our students in our centre. We are also delighted that we are able to make them find happiness where they are.
