Educate, sensitize and create awareness about HIV in Asokore Mampong Municipality in Kumasi through Floats, HIV Testing & Counselling, Door to Door engagement and Durbars. one thousand members of the population with ages ranging from 10 years and above to be educated, sensitized and tested for HIV. Five Thousand (5000)
HIV knowledge and awareness is very low in the area, yet the prevalence among the population is approximately 2.4% according to the 2018 HIV Sentinel Survey report. The closest site is Kumasi which recorded a prevalence of 2.6%. This rate is very high and unless something serious is done about it, it will get out of hand. The stigma and the myths associated with the condition very high. There are reported cases of ejections from homes, divorce, termination of employment as a result of HIV/AIDS.
The project will organize Roadshows/floats, education & HTC in all senior high schools, junior high schools, churches, mosques and community durbars within the Municipality. We are projected to start in mid-October this year through to June 2020. participants will be sensitized about the virus, HIV and the difference between it and AIDS. They will also be educated about QQR means of HIV transmission from person to person as a way to minimize stigma and discrimination arising out of fear.
Reduced rate of infection and therefore reduced prevalence rate among the population through the education and the awareness created. Those who test positive will be put on treatment which will ultimately impact on the rate of infection. The lives of those infected and on treatment will prolong as a result of viral suppression and they can live normal lives and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of the society in which they live. The infected ones will be given mitigating support.
