Summary

Pillars of Mercy Foundation desires to purchase a decent, homely farm house with a three-acre beautiful compound to house the first group of 20 out of scores of aged, lonely, underfed and sickly men and women empty-nested or homeless and rendered helpless by destiny, in order to provide for them all-round high-standard, free boarding and general health and living care, round the clock. Yes, they are our senior citizens, and we are all headed there!

Challenge

Each of the competitively picked men and women has unique health needs, but all of them have a common denominator that requires them to be housed in a decent communal home to cussion them from deteriorating under loneliness in their long-deserted empty nests. The common denominator is either poverty, widowhood, abandonment by close relatives and inability to do simple chores for themselves such as bathing, cooking or moving to the lavatory.

Solution

This project will mitigate the widespread range of abuse to elderly persons: denial of care and their dignity, independence, inclusion in public participation development forums and health systems, and, most importantly, their self-fulfillment. The changed lives of the beneficiaries will radiate the humanitarian love of other human beings that has no race, religion or creed barriers.

Long-Term Impact

The long term impact of this project is that it will help reveal the dynamics of the general abuse of older persons' rights at the village level by the community and the governance, and motivate other local and global stakeholders to wake up to the challenge. Further, it will bring to the fore the fact that all human beings live in "a global village and are brothers and sisters" despite the seas and oceans separating the continents.
