Summary

This project will enable La Serenissima, leading UK baroque ensemble, to release new recordings of 8 double concerti by Antonio Vivaldi worldwide. Our CD will showcase original research and performing editions, and 21 specialist musicians. Recording is our most powerful way to reach audiences and makes our work available to all via radio-play, streaming and YouTube. These works are beautiful, upbeat examples of Italian baroque style and will help more people to access the benefits of this music.

Challenge

Classical music has a proven track record in promoting health, wellbeing and intelligence in people of all ages. Baroque music, with its ordered use of harmonies and structure, has been specifically shown to enhance sleep quality, lower blood pressure and improve brain function by bridging the right and left sides of the brain. Too often, these benefits are inaccessible to people because of a perception that this type of music is niche, elitist or difficult to understand. We want to change this!

Solution

La Serenissima champions the best music of the Italian baroque because we love it; no other type of classical music is so accessible, has such appeal and can so readily uplift emotions. We believe better performances enhance the listener's experience, so we go back to basics with every project: each work is researched, edited from scratch and played to the highest standards. Vivaldi x2 will renew our connection with the world, making our music freely available to all via radioplay and streaming.

Long-Term Impact

The release of Vivaldi x2 will enable us to reach out to new listeners. It will provide free access to this life enhancing music to anyone who wants to hear it, in a permanent form. The disc will be part of La Serenissima's ongoing legacy, to reveal the work of Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) in the best light, to help more listeners appreciate and enjoy this accessible, soulful music. In turn, this will help introduce the wider benefits of classical music to more people, improving quality of life.
