Challenge

Rural transmission is high and families are on the edge with many earning members of the family now unemployed. With many living in one room houses, lack of medical facilities and awareness around COVID, the spread of COVID has been fast and gripping causing deep suffering. Lack of work orders and sale of craft have left artisans with little or no options to earn and forced them into vulnerable situations.

Solution

The project will aim to address the situation at two levels Level 1: Immediate relief work through - 1. Identification and support to distressed families in the form of medical kits and food kits. 2. Awareness of COVID spread, detection and management. 3. Small Emergency support funds for artisans in extreme distress. Level 2: Long term livelihood support 4. Generation of home based work for artisans with marketing support and linkages 5. Support access to fair wages and benefits

Long-Term Impact

The project as an inbuilt design to have a positive long term impact in the communities through focus on generating home based livelihoods. Around 700 tribal, rural and urban poor communities are expected to benefit with immediate relief and improved information for COVID management. The project has the potential to prevent communities from transition into extreme and unrecoverable poverty and distress.
