Intermittent rains from beginning of August 2018 led to massive floods from 8 August in many parts of Kerala state including Idikki District. Around 2400 families are taking refuge in Adimali and Cheruthoni flood relief camps. Food supplies given from 9 August. Government is providing cooked food. They need new clothes, cooking vessels, 1 month food - stay family needs, water drums and educational supports for 600 school going Children.
Kerala is a place with lot of water ways. It is known as God's Own Country. The heavy rains from the beginning of August inundated the rivers and canals and water levels went above the bridges by submerging the houses. Human loss is estimated above 354 persons so far. Many are missing. Houses have been destructed. Family belongings including school going Children education materials have been washed away. Around 2400 families of Cheruthoni and Adimali regions are in refugee camps.
A new life will begin for over 2400 families of Cheruthoni and Adimali regions with help from friends all over the world through Global Giving for supply of new clothes, sanitary and baby napkins, water drums, food and stay needs for one month, tools for restarting jobs and educational supports for school going Children.
People of Kerala are hardworking and self developing. The flood disaster is new for them in this massive level. So, the emergency relief provisions through Global Giving will encourage them to go forward in re-building their lives by reviving their jobs and also by re-designing their life situations to accommodate water bodies to contain future floods.
