In rural and low-income urban communities, many elderly women face hunger, illness, and isolation. With little or no income, most cannot afford daily meals or basic healthcare. According to the World Bank, over 40% of Nigerians live in poverty,& elderly women are among the hardest hit. This project will provide food packs, basic healthcare items,& small-scale livelihood materials to 500 elderly women who are struggling to survive. relief is needed to prevent worsening malnutrition & health decline
Elderly women in Nigeria often outlive their spouses and are left without pensions or steady income. Many rely on irregular help from neighbors or family who themselves struggle with poverty. Hunger, untreated illnesses, and neglect are common. In conflict-affected areas, widows are at even greater risk, lacking both security and resources. Without intervention, many will continue to face malnutrition, poor health, and premature death.
This project will provide monthly food baskets, medical supplies, and livelihood starter kits to 500 elderly women. Food relief will reduce hunger, while medical kits and screenings will help prevent untreated illnesses. Livelihood packs will give some women the chance to earn small income from farming or trade. This mix of direct relief and simple income activities will ease their daily struggles and allow them to live with dignity.
With improved access to food and healthcare, many elderly women will live longer and healthier lives. Livelihood starter kits will help some generate income, reducing their dependence on irregular external help. Supporting them also strengthens families and communities, as these women often care for grandchildren or share resources with neighbors. Long-term, the project can create a model that communities and local groups can replicate to sustain elderly care.
