Flood devastation in December 2015 in Chennai, destroyed homes and belongings of many people inculding street dwellers of Ekkattuthangal and daily wage labor families of Manali, Velacherry, Tambaram. Because of emergency help provided by many friends through Global Giving, relief goods were supplied for restarting their family life. With donations through GlobalGiving repairs to houses was taken up. The best intervention was through educational supports to school Children with books, notebooks, school bag, tiffin box, water bottle, play materials. Because of such supports, Children in flood affected areas are now appearing for school exams confidently.
Many Children from flood affected families have been motivated along with their parents through cultural programs and sports in collaboration with local partner Kalaipattarai. Such events have reinfused confidence in flood affected areas.
On behalf of flood affected people of Chennai, VOICE Trust appeals to Friends through GlobalGiving for following:
1. 325 school Children want guide books in different subjects.
2. 75 Women need tailoring machines for Income generation.
3. Homes with Orphan Children require livelihood supports for 60 orphan girls and boys.
Also, Kalaipattarai - the cultural troop wants musical instruments to continue motivating the flood affected people
