600 most deserving families were selected from 12-14 different flood hit areas by the AWARD team for distribution of food packages in Taunsa , District DG KHan. These selected families were the most vulnerable and marginalized as majority of them were in very poor condition due to heavy loss of their crops and livestock. Another reason behind the selection of these areas was that these areas had little or no access by the government and other social workers as they are located in deep and remote bait areas between rivers. After finalizing the list, the tokens were distributed among the 600 families to ensure the transparency. It was decided that only the food package would be given to the family holding the token. The community, along with AWARD staff, volunteered to unload food items to/from the trucks and helped to distribute the tokens among the beneficiaries.
Items Distributed are as follows.
Rice
Sugar
Cooking oil
Tea
Pulse Chana
Pulse Masoor
Milk packs
Flour
Mineral water
Cereals (for kids)
Biscuits
Hygiene kit
Medical kit
Reached results because of the activities
1. Dietary needs of 600 Flood affected families fulfilled for 15 days.
2. Improved co-ordination and relationship of AWARD with the District Coordination Office, Taunsa Sharif.
3. Recognition of AWARD in the areas as a very trustworthy and reputable organization.
4. Awareness on DRR and preventive Measures were raised among the communites.
Overall contribution of the beneficiaries was very appreciative. The contribution from them was in the form of provision of labour services which included loading and unloading of the food packages to/from the trucks. The Volunteers played a very vital role in the selection of the beneficiaries along with the selected committees and AWARD team throughout the distribution process. The beneficiaries also helped during the distribution ceremony. They made all the possible arrangements and helped people receive the food items in a much disciplined way. They cooperated with AWARD team in every way possible and followed the SOPs while receiving the food packages.
AWARD is constructing nearly hundred houses after the desruction in the flood affected areas. Along with the houses the organization is also building toilets as well as the intallation of handpumps for the most affected communities in Sindh. As peole are still recovering form the disaster, therefore we request all our donors and supporters to kindly help us in reaching more affected communities and help them recover.
