Report on Relief/Recovery for the Flood Affected
By Christina Peter | Project Leader
From June to September 2025, Pakistan has been reeling from one of the deadliest flood disasters in recent memory. Torrential monsoon rains, sudden cloudbursts, and overflowing rivers have left 881 people dead, more than 1,100 injured, and nearly one million displaced. Over 2.4 million people have been affected nationwide, with 8,200 homes destroyed, 152 bridges washed away, and thousands of acres of farmland submerged. Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and other regions remain devastated, with families grieving the loss of loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
In the midst of this tragedy, AWARD teams conducted a needs assessment in Chiniot, Punjab, one of the most severely affected districts. The findings revealed the destruction of 141 villages, leaving more than 200,000 people struggling without food, shelter, and safe drinking water. Families are living in unsafe makeshift camps, exposed to hunger, disease, and trauma, while children and women face the greatest risks.
Responding to this urgent situation, AWARD Pakistan is initiating a rehabilitation program for 150 flood-affected families in Faisalabad District. These families, who have lost everything in the floods, will be supported through:
Construction of one-room shelters to restore dignity and safety.
Provision of basic household necessities for survival and recovery.
Access to sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
This initiative is part of AWARD’s broader commitment to not only provide immediate relief but also build long-term community resilience against future disasters. By empowering local families with secure housing and basic infrastructure, we aim to reduce dependency on external aid and help communities rebuild their lives with dignity.
AWARD is deeply grateful to all the donors who have stood with flood-affected families during this national crisis. However, with millions still displaced and in urgent need, we strongly appeal for your continued support. Together, we can bring hope, safety, and recovery to those who have suffered so much.
