Our project to support Remote Learning in rural Kenya for 1,000 children has come to a close as schools in Kenya have now re-opened. The project reached 1,224 children (554 boys and 670 girls) across 6 villages in Kericho county. The children were enabled to focus on their school subjects as well as life skills, time for play and social skills. They were provided with a hot meal as many families struggle to feed themselves. Girls were especially vulnerable to violence and exploitation while schools were closed and these groups gave them a safe place to be.
We want to thank you for your support of this project which has kept the benefits of education alive for these boys and girls, encouraged their parents to keep a focus on education, provided training and support for the volunteers who facilitated the project and provided the schools with resources such as the handwashing containers and materials used by the community learning groups.
Although the schools have re-opened in Kenya, the danger of COVID-19 transmission is very real as children and teachers do not have access to basic handwashing facilities like clean water and soap at school.
We have set up a new project to support the schools to provide a clean, safe environment with rain water harvesting, handwashing stations, improved toilets, hygiene education and teacher training. The aim is to ensure that over 104,000 boys and girls will stay healthy and stay in school.
We value your support and thank you for being part of our journey especially in these strange and uneasy times.
