Dear Friends and Supporters,
If we ask the children in the community what the best time of their day is, most of them answer without hesitation — “Time to go to school.”
For many of our children at the Mercy Centre, school is not only a place of learning. It is a place of joy, friendship, and safety.
It is where they meet their friends each morning.
It is where they sing and dance together.
It is where they sit quietly and listen to their teachers read stories aloud.
And for many, it is where they receive the best and most nutritious meal of their day.
Recently, we also spoke with parents in the community. Many shared how deeply they trust the Mercy Centre to care for their children while they go to work. They told us how proud they feel seeing their sons and daughters wearing their school uniforms and walking confidently to class each morning.
One mother smiled as she described the “best gifts” her child brings home from school — colorful drawings, counting numbers from 1–10, and practicing the alphabet from A–Z. Reading A–Z can be a challenge for little ones, but they try their very best. These small homework pages, filled with effort and determination, are treasures for their families.
Your generous support for the Repair 17 Dangerous Slum Schools project is helping to make these moments possible in a safe and secure environment. Many of our school buildings were once unsafe, with leaking roofs, damaged floors, and unstable structures. Because of you, classrooms are being repaired and strengthened so that nearly 1,000 students can learn in safety and dignity.
A strong roof above their heads, safe classrooms, and proper facilities may seem simple — but for children growing up in vulnerable communities, they mean protection, stability, and hope.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for helping create safe schools where children can learn, grow, and dream of a brighter future.
With sincere gratitude,
Prawina
