Repair 17 Dangerous Slum Schools (1,000 students)

Creating Safe and Healthy Learning Spaces

By Prawina Sompong | Public Relations Manager

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Every day, over 1,000 vulnerable children in Bangkok’s poorest communities begin their mornings in Mercy Centre’s 17 kindergartens — places that have nurtured generations of children for decades.
These schools are the heart of our community — the first step toward education, safety, and hope for children who might otherwise have none.

However, many of these kindergartens are now in critical condition. Decades of tropical weather, flooding, and limited maintenance have left roofs leaking, electrical systems unsafe, and classrooms deteriorating. Without urgent repairs, these once joyful learning spaces are at risk of becoming unsafe for the very children they were built to protect.

Our Current Situation

The total goal for this renovation project is USD $60,000 (THB 2.1 million).
At this moment, we have one donor, and we still need to raise the remaining $60,000 to move forward with urgent renovations.

We estimate that each school requires between THB 500,000 and 1,000,000 for essential work — including fixing roofs, upgrading electrical wiring, improving water systems, and renovating kitchens and bathrooms to ensure hygiene and safety.

Challenges We Face

Because of fluctuating donations, many needed repairs have been postponed. This has led to:

  • Leaking roofs that cause classroom flooding during heavy rains
  • Eroded sidewalks and weak foundations that make buildings unsafe
  • Hazardous electrical wiring that poses fire and power outage risks
  • Outdated water systems that affect hygiene and sanitation
  • Unsanitary kitchens and bathrooms that compromise children’s health

Without proper renovation, these schools cannot continue to provide the safe, nurturing spaces that are so essential for our children’s early development.

Our Solution

With your help, we can restore and protect these vital learning spaces by:

  • Repairing and replacing leaking roofs
  • Reinforcing foundations and sidewalks
  • Upgrading electrical systems to modern safety standards
  • Improving water storage and delivery systems
  • Renovating kitchens and bathrooms to ensure hygiene and safety
  • Performing overall school maintenance and upgrades

Every improvement directly benefits the children — giving them bright, safe classrooms where they can learn and grow with confidence.

Why We Still Need Your Help

These 17 kindergartens are more than just buildings; they are the first classrooms for children in Bangkok’s poorest neighborhoods — safe spaces where they receive education, meals, and love.
Without immediate repairs, hundreds of children will continue learning in unsafe and unhealthy conditions.

Your support today will:

  • Create safe, clean, and inspiring learning environments
  • Protect the health and safety of students and teachers
  • Help preserve Mercy Centre’s legacy of early childhood education for generations to come

Together, We Can Rebuild Hope

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood with us through the years. Your kindness has kept the doors of our schools open — and with your continued help, we can rebuild and renew them for the next generation.

Please consider donating or helping us share this project.
Together, we can transform crumbling classrooms into safe havens of learning and love.

With gratitude,
The Mercy Centre Team
