Summary

Our Dog Rescue Center plans to provide medical care, including vaccinations and neuter/spay operations, for 100 dogs in Santa Rosalia, Mexico. Abandoned dogs roam the streets and the number will continue to rise unless we shift the trend by providing veterinary care, promoting adoption, and increasing education about the treatment of animals. We will improve the health and safety of the community by improving the health and well-being of the stray dogs.

Challenge

With so many abandoned dogs on the streets in Mexico, it is common to see a puppy dead by the side of the road: struck by a car and left there, ownerless and alone. Some unwanted puppies are left at the dump in garbage bags. Still others suffer from disease and starvation. If the puppies survive, they continue to reproduce and the population of suffering homeless dogs grows. We strive to vaccinate and neuter/spay local dogs to reduce their health issues and improve the health of the community.

Solution

The Dog Rescue Center provides food, water, shelter, and medical care including vaccinations and neuter/spay operations for rescue dogs in Santa Rosalia. We find loving adoptive families for our dogs and we have launched an extensive education program to shift the local mindset about stray dogs to work together as a community to solve this challenge. Through adoption, education, and veterinary care, we can reduce the number of abandoned dogs and improve the overall welfare of dogs and residents.

Long-Term Impact

By providing medical care for abandoned dogs, we will be able to curtail the growing number of dogs on the streets. With fewer abandoned dogs, the roads will be safer for motorists, the health of the community will improve, and the treatment of dogs will shift to be more humane and compassionate. All dogs and all residents of Santa Rosalia, Mexico are impacted by this challenge so the sooner we begin to address it, the sooner we can change the trajectory towards a healthy, thriving community.
