Over 1.2 million children in Nigeria suffer from acute malnutrition each year, with many at risk of death if not treated early. Malnourished children lack energy, fall ill frequently, and cannot grow properly. This project will reach 3,000 children in high-risk areas with emergency nutrition packs, health checks, and feeding support. Local teams will identify and treat children before their condition becomes life-threatening.
Many children in Nigeria do not get enough food due to conflict, poverty, or poor feeding habits. In the worst cases, children suffer from acute malnutrition-marked by extreme weight loss, weakness, and a high risk of death. Families in rural and conflict-affected areas lack access to treatment. Without early care, many children become too weak to recover from common illnesses like diarrhea or malaria.
This project will supply ready-to-use therapeutic food to children diagnosed with acute malnutrition. Local health workers will screen children, offer treatment, and provide follow-up to track weight gain and recovery. Community visits will help find affected children who are not yet brought to clinics. The food is easy to store and does not require cooking, making it useful for families without stable access to clean water or fuel.
Children who recover from malnutrition early are more likely to grow, learn, and stay in school. This project will build awareness among caregivers about feeding and illness prevention. Health workers will also gain skills in screening and early response. Families who take part may start better feeding practices that reduce malnutrition in younger siblings and neighbors.
