Rescue cats from being euthanized at local shelter

Amanda is only a little over a year old but she’s already faced a lot of struggles. The people who were caring for her were on the verge of losing their home when they contacted New Beginnings Cat Rescue to rehome Amanda, her 4 newborn kittens and a companion male cat named Aboo. Everyone was brought to the veterinarian for an initial checkup. Amanda was in rough shape with a severely infected eye and was very thin. She was given antibiotics and the family was sent on to a foster home.
After a week in foster care and still caring for her 2 week old kittens, Amanda started to have tremors and was in obvious distress. After consulting her veterinarian, she was diagnosed with Eclampsia - a dangerous depletion of her blood calcium levels from being malnourished during pregnancy and nursing a litter. She was given calcium supplements, fluids and 24/7 care. Thankfully, she quickly recovered and was able to continue nursing her kittens. Through all her ordeals she has always been a devoted Mom cat and took excellent care of her kittens. They all flourished and became a happy, rowdy bunch.
Once her litter was weaned a couple months later, she went back to the veterinarian. There had been no improvement with her infected eye, so the decision was made to remove it. Unfortunately, due to either damage to the optic nerve or a bad reaction to the anesthesia,  she lost vision in her other eye after the surgery. Amanda is now completely blind. She was brought to an Animal Eye Specialist but there was nothing more that could be done for her. She is adapting quickly though and is otherwise a happy and healthy young cat. She gets around the house great, has regained a healthy weight and is learning how to play again. Even with her visual disability, she is expected to lead a long and healthy life. Her kittens have all grown up and been adopted out, along with her companion Aboo. Amanda continues to thrive in foster care and NBCR is actively looking for an adopter for her.

Jack is only 3 years old. He was on the rescue only list at the local animal shelter due to an injury. What was initially thought to likely be a hernia turned out to be trauma from a possible kick to his ribs. Some of his ribs were broken and the injury abscessed internally.  The vet (Dr. Paul) removed about 2 cups of puss and stated she could not guarantee he wouldn't need further surgeries, but she drained most of the infection out and it went deep, close to his lungs. She then started him on antibiotics. In spite of his horrible abscess and broken ribs his attitude is great! Dr Paul said if she didn’t already have three cats he’d be with her at home.

With all this trauma - broken ribs but still in the game - Jack was destined for a better life, and a new name!  New Beginnings Cat Rescue pulled him out of the shelter and got him into a foster home where he could comfortably rest and continue his recovery in a quieter, peaceful environment.  Now 6 weeks later he is going strong! Recent x-rays revealed that he has healed up nicely.  He has been adopted and is now in his permanent home where he wrestles toy mice, stalks his humans, takes lots of naps, and barges through closed doors at every opportunity.  He does not want to be excluded from anything! His new family has renamed him Catfish Charlie due to his lovely long whiskers.  He has evolved into a very handsome kitty and is now on top of the world! 

Animal abuse is so appalling it is difficult to even write the words. But Jack’s story must be told because, thanks to all of you who support New Beginnings Cat Rescue, other cats can be rescued from a life of pain.
