Rescue cats from being euthanized at local shelter

No one knows exactly what happened to Miss Jenkins. She was dropped off at the animal shelter with a dangling foot. Otherwise, she was perfectly healthy and sweet natured so of course we rescued her.  

After consulting with our veterinarian, it was decided that her leg needed to be removed. The injury was old and irreparable.  A few days after the amputation it became apparent that she needed additional treatment for nerve pain. Within days she felt better and is quickly learning how to get around on 3 legs. She doesn’t seem to mind when she slides around a corner on her knees without the traction of two back feet while playing. She is able to jump up on her toys and can jump down onto the floor with ease.  

Miss Jenkins has a sweet personality and has no idea she is different. She has adjusted well to life on 3 legs and loves to sit next to her foster mom to be petted and groomed. Miss J is NOT a special needs kitty and will make a wonderful companion with no apologies.  

Injured cats are frequently euthanized at city shelters due to a lack of funds for veterinary care and limited space. With your generous support, NBCR is able to provide veterinary care and a loving foster home for adoptable cats like Miss Jenkins to heal.

Chester, a young orange tomcat, was surrendered to a local city shelter due to a leg injury.  Without the luxury of an x-ray machine, the shelter vet guessed that his rear leg was broken and would likely need amputation, and therefore he would not be made available for adoption.  The only way he could escape euthanasia was if a rescue group pulled him from the shelter.  Enter New Beginnings Cat Rescue.  We immediately took him from the shelter to our vet where he was neutered and x-rayed.  What was thought to be a broken leg turned out to be 4 broken toes, which would NOT require amputation, much to our and Chester's relief!  The vet explained that he could pin the 2 middle toes and the other 2 toes would fall in line, which is exactly what they did.  Today Chester is living it up in a foster home!  He makes weekly trips to the vet to have his toes checked out and his bandage changed.  He has about 2-3 more visits until his healing is complete and he will be bandage-free and ready for adoption.  His life will be like any other healthy kitty, except that he can no longer make it through an airport metal detector. Chester says life is good!
