Greetings, and thank you again for your support of The Rooster Project!
Last month, we worked with authorities to arrange the placement of 97 birds, including 36 roosters and 61 hens, who had been seized from a breeder of roosters for cockfighting in Kentucky. After we ensured that the birds had all been tested and cleared to travel, volunteers picked them up and conveyed them to several sanctuaries in the region. (Shout out to Hope Haven, Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, Lasa Sanctuary, Peaceful Fields, and Save the Gallos for agreeing to take birds!)
We never know when we're going to get another call about roosters seized from cockfighting or where they might be. Sign up to be a Rapid Response Network volunteer, if you might be able to make phone calls, drive birds to sanctuaries, or help to raise funds for the costs of rescues.
In addition to finding volunteers and equipment and sorting out all of the logistics of the latest rescue, VINE covered costs like vehicle rentals, tolls, and gasoline. We've not yet raised enough to cover all of those costs. Since we never know when we're going to get another call, we need to top up our own tank so that we can be ready to go!
