Colorado State University Veterinary Visit

In addition to community outreach, maintenance, cleaning, feeding, and care is given to all animals resident at the facility each month. The facility receives stray and injured animals from local authorities and occasionally from community members. In addition, MMB, the local mine, has begun supporting the rescue facility once again, and bringing strays there as necessary.

The rescue center population in February 2023 was 61 dogs, with two being rescued, two being placed for adoption, and one deceased. There were 27 low-cost sterilizations for pet owners. The rescue center regularly places about 35% of its population in adoptions during the year, but February was a banner month, with 13 adoptions out of 71 dogs.

We have worked hard to promote adoption and have included support in a month of food for croquettes donated by PURINA.

(this option is offered by PURINA in support of adoptions)
We can't get food for the center, but we can get food for the people who adopt and that help is valuable.

Housekeeping and maintenance of the facility occurred as usual.

• Feeding, watering, and veterinary care were given to all residents of the facility.
• Three lowcost sterilizations were completed by M.V.Z. Uriel Valdezfor community pets during the month.
• 24 free sterilizations were achieved thanks to collaboration with the Secretary of Health and local municipal
government.
• Ivermectin was applied to all pet residents by our veterinarian Uriel Valdezfor the control of fleas and ticks
• Our volunteer veterinarian, Adrian Beltran, arrived several times in January to walk dogs and improve the walking
paths.
• Cremation services were performed for 4 dogs in February, generating 3,000 pesos of income for HMSR.
• The vet prepared 4 dogs and their documentation for transport to the United States by air from Loreto.
• Two meetings were held with Municipal Tourist Coordination about a massive sterilization campaign performed
by vet students from Colorado State University.
• A community outreach representative for the municipality was trained about pet sterilization and responsible
ownership in order to give talks to local communities
• A complaint against maltreatment of animals in the community was successfully lodged with Public Ministry.
• A Zoom meeting was held with Purina about their program of 3 months of feed for anyone adopting a pet from
our CRESCA facility.
• A dog was rescued from the San Ignacio – Vizcaíno highway.

24 children from a local elementary school visited our facilities to learn about responsible pet ownership.
