Providing care and education prevents abuse&re-abuse, restore hope and dignity to survivors of sexual violence and give them bright future. This project in action in rural Rulindo District of Rwanda assists teen mothers of sexual violence from poor families with clinical care, safety, psycho-Social therapies, education, economic well being and ability to influence the decisions that affect their lives.
Sexual rape for girl's children is a pandemic that must be stopped. Pregnancy among teen girls, as a result, indicates an increase from 6.1 to 7.3 per cent according to the demographic and health survey 2014/2015, an issue that nobody should turn a blind eye to. This leads to undesirable consequences such as children on the street,child abandonment, child marriages, child labor, diseases, school dropouts etc. The project makes it urgent to save 60 teen mothers from possible effects.
HELP A CHILD INITIATIVE has adopted the "Caring, Healing and Teaching" framework where teen mothers and their babies are provided with clinical care & basic needs, e.g. food, clothing,safer residential care, medical insurance etc. Children's mothers are given psycho-social sessions, trained in sexual and reproductive health, child right& HIV/AIDS. They are also taught entrepreneurship, leadership skills and given free vocational education with support to start up income generating activity.
Our care and education support breaks the cycle of violence by providing survivors of sexual abuse with new opportunities and a shift in the lifestyle that made them vulnerable to abuse. It empowers survivors to be bold with their stories to help prevent abuse to other women and girls. We hope that through the "caring, healing, and teaching" framework, we are able to help end the cycle of abuse for a young girl, her family, and her community.
