Honor Mom - Help a Bird!

By Pamela A. Lee | Development Director

Risa, a feather-plucked Pionus
Risa, a feather-plucked Pionus

Many thanks to those of you who recently donated to Mickaboo! Because of your generosity and others, Mickaboo collected enough funds in the last month or so (centered around Global Giving Bonus Day) to pay for almost a month of veterinary expenses - a wonderful gift.

Your donations help birds like Risa (pictured). Risa experienced some major life changes that were just too stressful for her to handle. Sadly, she coped by picking at her body and feathers. Risa’s former owner cared for Risa very much and was worried about Risa’s health and happiness, so she surrendered Risa to Mickaboo, hoping that a change combined with extra love and attention, continued veterinary care and a good diet would restore Risa’s exterior beauty to match her interior. Risa is currently receiving veterinary care for mutilation, feather picking and dermatitis.  She also needs to gain some weight and strength. Though Risa is feeling a little down and out, she is still very kind, and looks forward to spending time with her human family or sitting quietly on their laps. Because of Risa’s medical and behavioral challenges she’ll likely need medical care for the foreseeable future.

Mother’s Day is coming soon!  Consider honoring the women in your life with an unconventional and unique gift – a donation to Mickaboo (via Global Giving) in their honor.  You’ll have your choice of personalized electronic, paper, and print-at-home cards to give to your special “moms” as the honorees of your gift(s). And, if you give between May 1 and May 13, your gift could earn Mickaboo a $500 bonus (for the ten nonprofits with the most card-giving donors).

Read our April newsletter, written by Mickaboo's volunteers, for more about how your dollars enable Mickaboo to help over a thousand birds like Risa annually.
