Project Report | Dec 2, 2025
They flew... with Others' Wings

In celebration of #GivingTuesday, GlobalGiving is giving away $500,000 in matching funds for gifts given between now and Dec 3, 8:59 am PST. Up to $2500 per donor per project will be matched! The more you give, the more Mickaboo's birds can receive for their essential veterinary needs. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity!

Your gifts have allowed us to rescue almost 500 birds so far this year, and place about 450 of them in forever homes.  Among these birds are those who recently flew to Southern California to their new home. A ringneck, 8 finches, and nine budgies took advantage of a collaboration between Mickaboo and Flying Tails, a nonprofit specializing in transporting animals for governmental and nonprofit animal welfare organizations. This mode of travel saved several hours of potentially stressful ground travel for the birds and their volunteer drivers.

The avian passengers represented a sampling of why birds come to Mickaboo.

  • The ringneck had been surrendered because her former guardian could not afford veterinary care for the bird's injured beak and sinus infection.
  • The budgies and finches came from an outdoor cage that was, sadly, not predator-proof.  Mickaboo received the surrender request for these birds after a hawk had killed others in the cage.

During this season of giving thanks, the 450ish birds in our rescue flock, and all of our volunteers, thank YOU for your support.  Your support allows us to continue our mission of helping these caring, smart, feathered beings in their time of need.  Please give now to take advantage of this matching opportunity.

From all of us to all of you - best wishes for a great start to a happy and safe holiday season.
