Parni+ operates at the intersection of LGBTQ+ and socio-political issues. We remain a key source of information for queer audiences: covering news, offering support resources, and highlighting the link between anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment and authoritarian politics, including Russia’s criminal aggression against Ukraine.
We also serve as LGBTQ+ experts for independent pro-democracy media, helping them increase both queer representation and the number of allies among their audiences.
Context:
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, state repression against LGBTQ+ people has intensified. Most Russian-language queer media outlets have shut down, changed focus, or gone underground. The closure of well-known projects such as Gay.Ru, Kvir, and Otkrytye has left the LGBTQ+ media landscape nearly destroyed.
Parni+ is now the only large and stable platform representing the interests of the LGBTQ+ community in the region — but we continue to face increasing repression ourselves.
Key achievements in Q1 2025:
•Published 124 news stories and 45 in-depth articles;
•Continued to provide direct support services through our peer consultant and psychologist;
•Hosted regular online peer support groups and meetings.
Thank you for standing with us.
Your support allows us not only to survive, but to remain a vital resource for LGBTQ+ people whose voices are being silenced.
