Responding to Deadly Conflicts in Western Kenya

Pride of a Woman in Mt. Elgon is grateful for the generous gift of a tent and chairs, which will become an important resource in strengthening the organization’s income-generating activities and supporting women’s empowerment. This donation is more than just equipment; it is an investment in the dignity, resilience, entrepreneurship, and economic independence of women in the community.

For many women in Mt. Elgon, access to sustainable sources of income remains a significant challenge. Pride of a Woman seeks to address this challenge by supporting women with practical skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, table banking, small businesses, and other livelihood activities that enable them to support themselves and their families. The tent and chairs will provide the organization with a much-needed asset that can be used to generate income while supporting community activities.

The tent will be available for hire foe weeding, funerals, community meetings,trainings, celebrations, church functions, youth events, and other social gathering within Mt. Elgon. The chairs will complement the tent-hire service and can also be hired separately. Income generated from these services will be reinvested into Pride of a Woman’s programs, including women’s entrepreneurship training, skills development, savings groups, and other livelihood initiatives.

The tent and chairs will also reduce the cost of organizing Pride of a Woman’s own activities. Instead of spending money hiring venues, tents, and chairs for training sessions and community meetings, the organization can use its own equipment. The savings can then be directed toward supporting more women and expanding income-generating projects.

Importantly, the project will create a sustsinable income. Pride of a Woman can establish a simple booking and management system, with proceeds recorded transparently and used to maintain the equipment and support women’s programs. The organization can also gradually expand its equipment as income increases, allowing the tent and chairs to become the foundation of a larger community-based social enterprise.
