*GABA HOPE FOR KIDS (GAHOK) - QUARTERLY REPORT*
*Theme: HOPE FOR EDUCATION*
*Date: August 27, 2026 | Location: Gaba & Wakiso, Uganda*
*1. Introduction - Hope for Education*
Gaba Hope for Kids was founded in 2019 to give HOPE FOR EDUCATION to unprivileged children in Gaba slum who had lost hope. Today we support 208 children (98 girls, 110 boys) - total orphans, HIV-affected, and children from poorest teen mothers - from Nursery to P.5 with free education.
*2. How We Give Hope for Education*
*A) Opening Doors to School:*
- 208 children enrolled who could not afford any school before
- Free lessons in Literacy, English, Math, Science under CBC
- Small classes for personal attention
*B) Removing Barriers to Learning:*
- 2 meals daily (porridge at 10am, posho/beans at 1pm) + clean boiled water - hunger was chasing children away
- Scholastic materials: 150 books, 200 pens, 50 uniforms, 100 shoes
- No school fees at all
*C) Quality and Care:*
- 2 qualified teachers + 4 volunteers + 2 international volunteers
- Weekly remedial for weak learners
- 50 home visits by social workers to bring back absentees
- Counseling and girls mentorship on hygiene and confidence
*3. Hope is Working - Impact*
- *Zero Drop-out:* Term 2, 2026 - 0% dropout vs 20% last year. Hope keeps them in class.
- *Academic Hope:* 15 pupils improved from Division U to Division 2/3 - they can now read and write.
- *Girls Have Hope:* 98 girls stayed in school, no early pregnancies in our program.
- *Community Hope:* 30 children on waiting list, parents now believe in education.
- *Future Hope:* Children now say "I want to be a doctor, teacher, pilot" - they have dreams again.
*4. Challenges to Hope for Education*
1. No permanent classrooms - leaking iron sheets, learning stops when it rains
2. No toilets - 208 children use bush, girls miss school
3. Lack of CBC textbooks and blackboards
4. Few qualified teachers due to small stipends
5. No library, no computers, no playground
6. No fence - insecurity after Ggaba ECD incident
7. 100% donor dependent - hope depends on sponsors
*5. Keeping Hope Alive - Next Steps*
- Build 3 pit latrines with hand washing: $4,500 (urgent for girls' dignity)
- Build 2 permanent classrooms on our 1-acre land in Wakiso for 600 pupils Nursery-P.7
- Buy CBC textbooks and guides
- Recruit 3 qualified teachers
- Start small library and learning corners
- Start sweater knitting & soap making for mothers to support education
- Enroll 50 more children from waiting list
*6. Conclusion*
Hope for Education is not just books, it is food, love, safety, and a future. For 208 children in Gaba, Gaba Hope for Kids is their only hope for education. With your support, we can grow this hope from 208 to 600 children.
