*GABA HOPE FOR KIDS (GAHOK) - QUARTERLY REPORT*
*Theme: Educational Empowerment for Vulnerable Children*
*Period: May - August 2026 | Location: Gaba & Wakiso, Uganda*

*1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY*
This report highlights our work in educational empowerment of 208 unprivileged children in Gaba slum. Education is our main tool to break the cycle of poverty among orphans, HIV-affected and children from poorest families. This quarter we maintained free access to education from Nursery to P.5, despite limited infrastructure.

*2. ABOUT US*
Gaba Hope for Kids is a CBO founded in 2019. We currently support 200+ children with free quality education, daily feeding and clean water, scholastic materials, health and hygiene education, and parent empowerment.

*3. EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT ACTIVITIES DONE*

*A) Free Inclusive Education:*
- 208 children enrolled (98 girls, 110 boys) Nursery - P.5
- Daily lessons in Literacy, Numeracy, English, Science following CBC curriculum
- Small class sizes for personal attention

*B) Keeping Children in School:*
- Daily feeding: Porridge at 10am and Lunch at 1pm
- Distribution of scholastic materials: 150 books, 200 pens, 50 uniforms, 100 shoes
- Provision of clean boiled water

*C) Quality Improvement:*
- 2 qualified teachers + 4 committed volunteers
- 2 international volunteers helped in teaching aids
- Weekly revision and remedial for weak pupils
- Regular parent meetings to follow up attendance

*D) Child Protection & Psychosocial Support:*
- 50 home visits by social workers
- Counseling for traumatized children
- Girls mentorship on menstrual hygiene and self-esteem

*4. RESULTS / IMPACT*

- Zero Drop-out Rate in Term 2, 2026 vs 20% last year
- 15 pupils moved from Division U to Division 2/3
- 30 more children on waiting list
- 98 girls retained in school
- Children now read, write, speak English, and dream big

*5. CHALLENGES*

1. No permanent classrooms - temporary iron sheets leak
2. No toilets - health risk for children
3. Lack of CBC textbooks and blackboards
4. Few qualified teachers due to low stipends
5. 100% donor dependent
6. No library, computer, or playground
7. No fence - insecurity in area

*6. NEXT STEPS*

- Build 3 pit latrines with hand washing ($4,500)
- Construct 2 permanent classrooms on our 1-acre land in Wakiso for 600 pupils
- Buy CBC textbooks and teaching guides
- Recruit 3 qualified teachers
- Set up small library and learning corners
- Start income generating activities for parents
- Enroll 50 more vulnerable children

INTRODUCTION
Ebola continues to threaten lives and livelihoods in our communities. Through The Fight Against Ebola, GABA HOPE FOR KIDS is working with communities, schools, and local leaders to prevent outbreaks, respond quickly, and save lives.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES
Goal: To protect communities from Ebola through prevention, education, and hygiene support.

Objectives:
Educate communities on Ebola signs, prevention, and safe response
Distribute water taps, soap, and hygiene materials
Train volunteers and leaders as community health champions
Support early reporting and reduce stigma around Ebola

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED
Community sensitization meetings and door-to-door campaigns
Installation of water taps and handwashing stations in schools and public places
Distribution of soap, sanitizers, and IEC materials
Training of teachers, parents, and community volunteers
Radio messages and community announcements on Ebola prevention

OBSERVATIONS AND IMPACT
Increased knowledge of Ebola symptoms and prevention
More handwashing facilities in use in homes and schools
Community leaders actively spreading correct information
Reduced fear and stigma through education
Families report feeling safer and more prepared

CHALLENGES
Limited supplies of soap, sanitizers, and IEC materials
Need for transport to reach remote villages
Ongoing rumors and misinformation

RECOMMENDATIONS
Scale up hygiene support to more schools and households
Train more community volunteers for continuous awareness
Strengthen coordination with health centers and local government
Ensure sustainable supply of water and soap
