Challenge

Extreme monsoon rains have triggered floods and landslides across much of Pakistan over the past weeks, leading to widespread loss of life, livelihoods and infrastructure. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the floods have affected 33 million people in Pakistan and 6.4 million need assistance. Pakistan has urged the international community to help with relief efforts.

Solution

International Medical Corps is supporting the Department of Health, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by providing essential medicines and medical supplies; improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene services to stop the spread of disease; promoting proper hygiene practices in displacement camps; providing mental health services; and working with local communities to bring critical infrastructure back online.

Long-Term Impact

International Medical Corps has been working in Pakistan for more than two decades. We will support the local communities as they chart their course to near-term relief and long-term recovery. This work will include needs assessments, the provision of equipment, providing a host of services to bring healthcare back online, and training as necessary.
