HRI IS RESPONDING TO A MASSIVE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN HAITI! HRI's physician, nurse, social worker, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) specialist, and other professional staff are partnering with one of the few operational hospitals that is severely understaffed due to the current situation to provide professional medical, WASH and hygiene services to victims of this extreme violence! We are also activating our Mobile Medical Clinic to serve displaced persons and serving 13 orphanages!
The scale of unrest, violence and massive internal displacement we are witnessing in Haiti, particularly in the capital city of Port Au Prince, is unprecedented. The resulting misery is indescribable. Most organizations have paused activities in PAP due to the high degree of insecurity and risk. However, HRI is ramping up our support and services as scores of displaced people - victims of the violence - need water, hygiene supplies, and medical care following their attacks.
HRI is partnering with one of the few operational hospitals that is severely understaffed due to the current situation. Our physician, nurse, social worker, and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) specialist are treating victims on the front lines both at the hospital and via mobile medical clinics. We also continue to serve more than 500 children and caretakers in 13 orphanages that all lie amidst the gang controlled communities. This is particularly dangerous, and our team remains vigilant!
Most organizations have paused activities. But HRI is working in the field and at the office in spite of the fact that the population has been told to shelter in place. We desperately need to increase the amount of food, water & fuel (used for cooking) for nearly 500 orphans & caretakers in 13 orphanages in case the city runs out completely. And we need to bolster the supplies for our mobile medical clinics and hospital support, such as water, soap, hygiene products, medical supplies and more.
