This project will increase long-term resilience to climate change, social crisis, and political crisis, for communities in Somalia. Across Somalia, millions of people are facing famine. Climate-crisis-induced drought, local conflict included communities displaced by Al-Shabaab, and impacts of the war in Ukraine and COVID-19. Your support to the Response Food and Drought Crisis in Somalia Project will provide emergency relief, food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies to people in need.
The food crisis in Somalia is the result of rapid shifts from drought to flooding, as well as violence and conflict. Consecutive years of poor rains and harvests have decimated crops across Somalia. Families are dying not only from starvation, but also from diseases such as cholera and measles because they lack clean water and sanitation. More than half of the population live below the poverty line, making them even more vulnerable to climate shifts.
This project will therefore, intends to provide immediate access to unconditional emergency relief, food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies to people in need from most vulnerable women, girls, boys and men, it will also provide capacity enhancement, farming tools as well as farm inputs to these target farmers in Somalia as well as agricultural seed inputs and tools to increase their farming production thus improving the nutrition of the target population.
Providing support for long-term livelihoods programming that will make communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change while developing local economies. HRDC will provide skill trainings, seeds and other inputs necessary to start and develop small-holder farms and small businesses also improving Household nutrition, reduction of diseases and mortality rate.
