Teenage mothers face heightened vulnerability to HIV/AIDS due to biological, socioeconomic, and structural factors. Many lack access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, experience coercion or violence, and face barriers to clinic-based services. Addressing this gap is critical to protecting both young mothers and their infants.
Key Interventions
1. Integrated Health Education – Deliver age-appropriate, peer-led sessions on HIV prevention, including PrEP, condom use, and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART).
2. Youth-Friendly Services – Establish mobile clinics and drop-in centers offering confidential testing, counseling, and contraception alongside postnatal care.
3. Economic Empowerment – Link HIV prevention to vocational training and childcare support, reducing survival-driven transactional sex.
4. Community Engagement – Train local mentors to combat stigma and promote mother-led support groups.
Expected Outcomes
Within 24 months, we aim to increase HIV testing rates by 50%, reduce incident infections by 30% among enrolled mothers, and achieve zero mother-to-child transmissions in program areas.
Conclusion
Evidence-based, non-judgmental interventions tailored to teenage mothers can break the cycle of HIV transmission. We request funding to scale this model across three high-prevalence districts.
