Across communities, teenage motherhood too often means the end of childhood twice over first through pregnancy, then through abandonment. Girls as young as 14 are expelled from school, rejected by their families, and left to raise infants alone, without shelter, income, or anyone to turn to. Stigma cuts them off from friends, community, and the support networks every new mother needs. Left unaddressed, this cycle traps both mother and child in poverty for a generation to come.
We launched Restoring the Future to change that story. The program is reaching girls between 14 and 19 with a comprehensive path back to stability: maternal and infant health care, trauma-informed counseling, vocational training in skills like tailoring and craft-making, and, wherever possible, a route back into education. At the heart of the program is reconciliation helping girls rebuild bridges with family where it's safe, while surrounding them with a peer community of other young mothers who understand exactly what they're carrying.
The change is already visible. Girls who arrived with nothing are now receiving prenatal and postnatal care for the first time. In group counseling sessions, they are naming their trauma instead of hiding from it. Many are learning trades that will let them provide for their children with dignity. Perhaps most powerfully, local leaders and families who once turned these girls away are beginning to reopen their doors, as community engagement work slowly dissolves the stigma that isolated them in the first place.
As we work toward supporting girls in this program, your continued partnership has made it possible to keep expanding access to healthcare, counseling, and vocational training. Every gift moves a young mother closer to a future she once believed was closed to her — and gives her child a healthier start in life.
Thank you for standing with these girls as they rebuild.
