Giving Young Mothers a Second Chance to Learn and Dream

By Ivan Seguya | Project leader

Early motherhood can interrupt education and cause young women to believe that their dreams must end. For abandoned teenage mothers in Mukono and Eastern Uganda, poverty can make returning to education or accessing skills training even more difficult.

F SSIBU Mission Foundation works to create second-chance opportunities through vocational training, computer skills, mentorship, health education and livelihood support.

The objective is to help young mothers understand that becoming a mother at a young age does not mean losing the opportunity to learn or build a meaningful future.

Training in tailoring, hairdressing, electrical engineering, computer literacy and modern farming provides practical learning opportunities. Participants can develop competencies that may support employment, entrepreneurship or household income generation.

Computer skills are especially important in today’s digital environment. Introducing vulnerable young mothers to technology can strengthen their confidence and expand their understanding of opportunities available through the digital world.

Mentorship helps participants remain focused on their goals while balancing motherhood and personal development. Health education provides knowledge that can help them make informed decisions about sexual and reproductive health.

Donor funding can remove financial barriers that prevent vulnerable mothers from accessing learning opportunities. Support can provide training materials, equipment, instructors, mentorship and other program necessities.

The transformation is powerful. A young woman who once believed her future had ended can become a learner again. She can acquire a skill, develop confidence and begin pursuing opportunities that were previously beyond reach.

Her child can also benefit from the increased stability and knowledge she gains.

Donors are therefore not simply financing education. They are creating second chances.

With sustained investment, F SSIBU Mission Foundation can continue helping young mothers in Mukono and Eastern Uganda rediscover their potential and build futures based on knowledge, skills, dignity and hope.
