Restoring the Future for Abandoned Teen Mothers

For many communities in Eastern Uganda, agriculture remains an important part of household livelihoods. For vulnerable teenage mothers, however, limited knowledge, resources and capital can make it difficult to benefit from agricultural opportunities.

F SSIBU Mission Foundation promotes modern farming as one pathway through which young mothers can develop practical livelihood skills and strengthen household resilience.

Participants can be introduced to improved approaches to farming, responsible use of resources, planning and productive agricultural practices. The objective is to help young mothers view agriculture not only as subsistence activity but also as a potential livelihood opportunity.

For an abandoned teenage mother, having a practical way to contribute toward household income can make a significant difference. Increased productivity can help improve the ability to meet children’s needs while reducing dependence on others.

Modern farming is complemented by mentorship and other skills development. Young mothers can also access training in areas such as tailoring, hairdressing, computer skills and electrical work, allowing participants to explore different pathways according to their abilities and interests.

Donor support can provide training materials, agricultural learning opportunities, mentorship and resources required to help participants apply what they learn.

The impact is about more than farming. It is about restoring confidence and demonstrating that vulnerable mothers can become productive contributors to their households.

A mother who learns how to improve agricultural production can potentially strengthen her family’s food security and income. Her child benefits from the increased capacity of the household.
