Providing sustainable income generating opportunities for women continues to be the driving force behind our work. One of the most significant ways we do this is through operating our fair trade retail store in Accra, Ghana. Global Mamas depends on this store for nearly 25% of our annual revenue. It is crucial to our mission of providing a steady, predictable income to the Mamas. Sadly, we were unable to renew our store lease due to the deterioration of the building.
The new proposed location on the ground floor of the apartment building, The "Ella", just off of Accra's famous Oxford street, is near popular attractions making it the perfect spot for our customers. However, this new building will cost $700 more per month, and as is typical with new leases in Ghana, we must pay a full two years in advance to secure the location. In addition, we need to invest in the cost of moving, installing energy-efficient air conditioners, store fixtures, and marketing.
The financial impact of our Accra Store is tremendous. From bolstering the local economy to fulfilling our mission of providing the Mamas a steady, living wage, our Accra store is ESSENTIAL to our continued growth and success. Through store employment opportunities and continued sales, we are able to provide the Mamas with a fair and punctual wage. We know you are also united by a passion for the success of African women. We humbly request your support during this crucial time.
We believe the most effective way for women to achieve prosperity is to gain economic independence through sustainable employment. Our Accra store is a vital part of this endeavor. The Mamas create and sell unique, handcrafted products of the highest quality through this location. By providing this avenue for income, more than 300 African women will realize their dreams of supporting their families, sending their children to school, improving their health, and saving for the future.
