When It Rains, It Pours Into Their Homes

By Atim Racheal | Fundraiser

Dear Compassionate Supporter,

When the rainy season arrives in the slums, it does not just bring water from the skies it brings fear, disruption, and heartbreak.

For many families, the rain is a dreaded visitor. Without proper drainage, the water has nowhere to go. It gathers in dirty pools along the roads, fills the trenches, and then forces its way into homes. It soaks everything clothes, mattresses, food, and even the people themselves. Children wake up in the middle of the night soaked to the skin, trembling, terrified as water creeps across the floor and up their beds.

What should be a safe space becomes unlivable. Waste and garbage float in the stagnant water. The air fills with the stench of pollution. And for many, this is their reality every time the clouds gather. It's more than just discomfort it's a serious threat to health, safety, and dignity.

But even in the darkest storms, there is hope.

Joy for Children Uganda is working closely with the community to find real, lasting solutions. Together with local leaders, families, and youth, we are cleaning up the environment, advocating for better waste management, and finding ways to protect homes from flooding. We are listening, learning, and acting because no child should have to sleep in water, and no parent should fear the rain.

We want to thank you because your support makes this work possible. You may not be walking through the flooded paths yourself, but your impact is felt in every home we help dry, every family we stand with, and every child who knows someone out there cares.

Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for standing with them.
