This project provides custom mobility aids, physical therapy, and comprehensive support to disabled children surviving on the streets of Nigeria. These children, often forced to crawl, are extremely vulnerable to abuse and denied basic rights like education. By providing a custom wheelchair, crutches, or braces, we restore their independence, unlock access to safe shelter and school, and give them hope for a dignified future.
Disabled street children face an acute, double burden of poverty and physical immobility. They cannot escape danger, access inclusive schools, or move beyond a begging economy. Lack of appropriate, custom-fitted mobility aids leads to worsening deformities, chronic pain, and severe psychological distress. They are isolated, forgotten, and face the highest risk of exploitation and premature death.
We solve this with a holistic three-step process: 1. Clinical Assessment & Fitting: A therapist assesses the child and custom-fits the necessary aid (wheelchair/brace). 2. Rehabilitation & Training: The child receives physical therapy and training to use the aid safely and effectively. 3. Inclusion: We move the child to a safe care center, provide regular healthcare, and enroll them in a disability-inclusive school program to ensure their long-term well-being.
Restored mobility is the key to breaking a cycle of extreme vulnerability. It allows a child to move, access education, gain independence, and escape a life of begging. An educated, mobile adult with a disability can pursue employment and become a self-sufficient contributor to society. This single intervention reduces long-term healthcare costs and transforms a life of dependence into one of dignity and potential.
