Raheema is a housewife who hails from Daddu, Sindh. Her husband is a daily wage earner. Raheema’s parents chose not to send her to school due to social stigmas attached to education. She enjoys looking after her children and being the best mother she can be. She busies herself in cutting grass for the cattle they own and enjoys travelling to visit her family members in villages nearby.
One year ago, Raheema felt that her daily chore of cutting grass for the cattle was becoming increasingly difficult due to her eyesight deteriorating. She also felt like everyday tasks were taking longer than usual as she could not see properly. She was becoming irritable because she did not know the reason and nothing seemed to help. Community members told her to be patient and some even alluded that it was all in her head.
Not being able to look after her children properly and just the thought of evenutally becoming dependent on others was taking a toll on Raheema and there were no local clinics she could go to for a checkup. Her biggest concern was for her children as who would look after them if she went blind.
When her relatives in Gambat, learnt of her situation they urged her to visit the LRBT facility there and get herself examined. At LRBT Raheema underwent a thorough examination and was diagnosed with cataract. She was proposed a date for surgery and provided medicines. She underwent a successful surgery and is now able to go back to leading a fulfilling life and seeing her children grow up.
