Empowering Women Through Free Eye Care

LRBT’s mission is rooted in the belief that no one should suffer from curable blindness simply because they cannot afford treatment. Every year, 3 million underprivileged Pakistanis, 51% percent of whom are women, receive free, high-quality eye care across LRBT’s nationwide network of hospitals and clinics. Rashida’s story is a shining example of how access to free eye care can empower women to reclaim their lives, dignity, and independence.

Rashida, a young mother and homemaker, had long struggled with chronic allergies. Over time, her vision began to deteriorate, and she was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. The cost of surgery at a private facility was far beyond the reach of her family’s limited income. With her vision fading and daily activities becoming increasingly difficult, Rashida was at risk of losing her independence and becoming entirely dependent on others.

In a moment of despair, hope arrived from an unexpected source—her husband. Having himself received free treatment from LRBT, Muhammad Arshad encouraged her to seek help from the same hospital. His words—“Don’t worry. I have already received my treatment free of cost from LRBT. We will go there. God will help us in this difficult time.”—became the turning point in Rashida’s journey.

At LRBT’s Korangi facility, Rashida was received with compassion and professionalism. She underwent a detailed evaluation, and soon after, her right eye was successfully operated on—entirely free of cost. The transformation was immediate. Her vision was restored, and with it, her confidence and autonomy.

Today, Rashida moves through life with renewed hope. She is able to care for her child, support her household, and look toward the future without fear. Had she not received this intervention, she may have fallen into helplessness and lifelong dependency.

Rashida’s story is one of thousands that illustrate the life-changing impact of LRBT’s work. Without the support of generous donors, women like Rashida—already marginalized by poverty—would remain trapped in a cycle of blindness and despair. With every free surgery, LRBT is not only restoring sight but also restoring lives.

LRBT extends heartfelt thanks to its donors, whose compassion and generosity continue to bring light to those living in darkness. Because of you, Rashida and countless others can now see a brighter tomorrow.
